Brokenness Can Lead To Wholeness

And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. Luke 24:30

The breaking of the bread by the Lord provokes some important thoughts and applications for our own personal lives. As the bread was broken by the Lord to bring blessings, God sometimes has to break us in order to bring blessings to others and to ourselves. The Lord will sometimes break us to develop character and maturity in our lives.

God uses brokenness to enlarge us. The trials from brokenness can develop or broaden our character and teach us important insights from Scripture. God uses our distress to knock off the rough edges in our life. He also opens new doors of opportunity, growth, or future ministry. The humility that comes from brokenness lifts us up to new levels of spiritual growth.

Times of breaking are difficult times for us. Job and David were men who were both broken by the Lord and went on to do great things for God.

Psalm 119:67, 71—Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word. It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

Job 16:12—I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.

Can you relate to these two men? Has your life ever been shattered like a glass bottle? A broken bottle is useless, worthless, forgotten, and cast aside. Have you ever felt that way? Do you feel like this now? If so, let me encourage you by saying that there are blessings from brokenness.

As a shepherd breaks the legs of a rebellious lamb in order to keep it close to him, God breaks us sometimes to keep us close to Him. God does not break us to impair us, but to improve us. As the ore is broken by the miner to get to the gold, God breaks us to bring the gold out in us. Beloved, God breaks us to bring out the best in us.

If you take your problems to the Lord... that's normal. If you give them to the Lord, that's spiritual. God allows us to be broken so we might give our burdens to Him and trust Him implicitly. He brings good out of our brokenness.

God Bless
