Every Man Has His Burdens

2 Corinthians 1:8 (NIV)

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life.

These are the words of the apostle Paul during a time of deep personal struggle while in Asia.  As it was with Paul so it is with all of us. We all have had those moments in life when it was tough, even beyond our imagination.

Heavy Burdens in Life consist of:

·         Inner fears and doubts.

·         External pressures in business, at home, with finances, or health.

·         Prayers that never seem to get answered.

·         Inner peace that remains elusive.

·         A persisting sense of spiritual coldness or dryness.

Compounding the heaviness of our burdens is the illusion of those Teflon Christians among us where nothing seems to touch them:  Those Smiley… Victorious… Impervious to Pain; Christians who act as if they are always at the top of their game.

According to the apostle Paul, "Each of us must bear some burdens of his own." (Galatians 6:5)  The fact of the matter is that every one of us goes through times of deep personal conflict. If this is where you are today, you have come to the right place.  So as we worship God today, let our spirit be in unity with God’s Spirit and let our hearts take confidence in His Word which says "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you." (Isaiah 43:2)
